Cacao Farm House – Finca Alazan – Costa Rica
What better way to experience the world of tropical cacao cultivation and processing than to stay in the middle of a working cacao farm? Guests can stay in Finca Alazan’s new, comfortable cottage overlooking verdant cacao trees. The Cacao Farm House accommodates two persons. A stay in the Cacao Farm House can be coupled with an educational tour of the cacao orchard and/or a chocolate-making class.
Most visitors to Costa Rica have never seen a cacao tree or a fresh, ripe cacao pod. Visitors are astonished to see cacao fruit clinging to the trunk of the mother tree. It’s unlike most every other fruit-bearing tree on the planet.
Finca Alazan is not a large commercial cacao operation. Rather, it is a small-scale, organically managed orchard with about 800 cacao trees. And while that may sound like a lot of trees, the footprint of the orchard is only 3 acres and easy to explore. Informative tours and chocolate-making classes are offered for the curious by Juliet Davey aka “Mama Cacao”. During harvest guests can witness and participate in cacao processing.
In addition to the Cacao Farm House, Finca Alazan boasts three more comfortable homes within the same community that can accommodate between 2-4 persons each:
perfect for family reunions, business retreats or special interest groups.
Many great options to consider!
